Pendleton Fall Harvest Festival... and a little story of the day!
It was a beautiful (AND HOT!! 85 degrees plus) day at The Pendleton Fall Harvest Festival this past Saturday in Pendleton, SC! We set up the tent and tables Friday afternoon and arrived about 7:30am Saturday morning to hang all the shawls, ponchos, scarves and place all the cats, kittens and mini kittens! That's my hubby in the tent, who helped lug all the heavy stuff....
I met so many wonderful people! Including someone from back home... A lot of times someone will ask where I am from. Generally, this means where am I in the area, so if they want something in the future I'm local enough that they can pick something out or up. This gentleman asks me that question, "where are you from?", and for some unknown reason I say "I'm actually from Connecticut." He looks at me astonished as says "so is she..." "She" was his friends wife and I turned to her and said, "where in Connecticut are you from?" Now you have to understand, I live about 800 miles from Connecticut now, and I do run into people from Connecticut from time to time, but when she answers "Danbury" my mouth dropped... I said "Me too!" Then I ask her when she graduated high school... and she answers "1979", and I say, "Me TOO!" So now we are looking at eachother, trying to imagine the 17 year olds we use to be about 45 years ago. She looked familiar, she said I looked familiar. There were over 900 kids in my graduating class, so lots of people. We did have mutual friends, but did not really know each other in high school. But isn't that just amazing?! What a small world!! Next month we're going out to lunch with a mutual friend who just moved in the area this year!
That was one amazing thing that happened that day, which finished up with many, many Cat, kitten and mini kitten adoptions, beautiful shawls going home and looking gorgeous on the ladies that fell in love with them, along with a beautiful poncho that I designed the pattern for, going home with the perfect match for her, and a gorgeous pocket shawl with vintage bone buttons that I added because they just looked perfect on it.
Then about 4 o'clock the sky started turning a nice shade of gray and soon there was rain, which got heavier as the minutes passed. Then wind, which was blowing hard and quite a few people had to rescue their items. Of course this was about the time we all were starting to tear down our booths and put things away... including the tent which was sheltering us all from the rain! But even though the temperature dropped and we were all getting wet, there was a kind of comradery among us all as we endured the crazy end of the day weather and packing up.
I want to thank everyone who fell in love with something and took it home with them! Thank everyone who stopped by and said hello, and thank everyone for the wonderful comments and compliments on my work. It really makes it all worthwhile! I really enjoyed meeting everyone and exchanging a little bit of ourselves with each other. All the children were adorable too! Keep in touch!
